Houston bankruptcy and immigration lawyer Maria Cordon, and her boutique law firm, Maria M. Cordon P.C., represents businesses in immigration matters and individuals in immigration and consumer bankruptcy matters. Ms. Cordon is a magna cum laude graduate of Duke University, earned her law degree from Southern Methodist University Law School, is Board Certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. She was included in the 2009 edition of Texas Super Lawyers magazine. Only five percent of lawyers in Texas received this honor.
Born in Guatemala, Ms. Cordon is a naturalized U.S. citizen fluent in French and Spanish, and with a working knowledge of Italian and Portuguese. She has been practicing law in Texas since 1994 and is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Court of International Trade.
In her bankruptcy practice, she represents consumers and helps them obtain relief through bankruptcy. In her immigration practice, her exceptional legal knowledge, innovative approaches, and strong language skills, when combined with having personally lived both sides of the immigration experience, give her a unique perspective, track record of success, and empathy with her clients, whether she is representing you on a local, national, or international level.
Having personally experienced the immigration process as a visitor, foreign student, legal permanent resident, and U.S. citizen, Ms. Cordon appreciates the many personal and legal challenges confronting those who want to call the U.S. home. Using a more personal approach, she regularly meets with clients, accompanies them to hearings, interviews, and represents their interests in court. She enjoys creating a sound case strategy, to minimize the personal and financial stresses that so often accompany the immigration process while increasing the rate of success.
While Ms. Cordon is dedicated to the personal attention of her clients, the firm has heavily invested in the technologies that allow our worldwide immigration clientele to comfortably and conveniently obtain expert legal advice and manage their cases online. Our office is paperless and immigration clients can access their files and obtain case status information 24/7; we will also be happy to assist you in person during business hours.
An active member of the Houston community, Ms. Cordon is a member of the Houston Association of Debtor Attorneys (HADA). She has served past Co-Liaison representing Houston attorneys who are members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), liaised with all three branches of the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Investigations and Customs Inspection, and currently serves on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Liaison Commitee in Houston.
